Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She served on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout the years, such as budget reform, tax reform as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She travelled frequently together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
